Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.
The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 separate occasions.
Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.
The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.
Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.
From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.
Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
