Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the party enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
