2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Response
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a clearer game identity.
The president expressed that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
This announcement follows a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our fans.
The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. Following some time of conversations, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
His management and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most popular series in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in greeting Ben soon. We are all looking forward to keep observing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
The President
